Folie à Deux

"Are you sure this is the right way?" 

"The sign said the main gate was this way, so we're going to keep going this way." 

"I don't recognize these hedges." 

"Are you sure? They all pretty much look the same."

It all began when the rain started coming down. An afternoon at the Petite Trianon is lovely until your rain jacket's been soaked through and you've run out of oranges. 

And what a perfect orange that was. The epitome of what an orange should be. You can still smell the peel on your hands. 

The clouds rumble above you. You see their darkening silhouettes reflected in the pond, standing on the covered bridge. 

Neither of you want to admit it, but you're both lost. Circling the Petite Trianon. Seeing the same flowers again and again. A face slips past the window, bushes rustle, you seem to hear something - names, perhaps. For a moment, everything is made clear. A tableau vivant. A procession of green-garbed gentlemen, a fair haired woman sketching on the grass, and each drop of rain hung in the air, suspended. The illusion breaks, and you both walk on. 

Eventually, you find yourself in the street. Some secret exit, and therefore a secret entrance which makes you question the cost of admission. You're both very, very hungry.

"Is that a sign for McDonalds?" 

Caught in the rain, elegant orange floats over geranium and a hint of grassy green galbanum. Sophisticated and classic - the perfect scent to wear while lost in the grounds of Versailles.
